Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres is a French Neoclassical
artist. He paints mainly portraits and particularly focuses on the dress of the first half of the 19th century
(5). Many of his paintings focus on the material and style of the clothes worn by the sitter. He emphasizes these things by casting the face of the sitter into darkness. He also uses techniques such
as a gloomy, black background in order to bring out the brilliance of the dress. You think that maybe his meticulous attention
for detail in his paintings has carried over into his real life—maybe he has heard something about Chucky! As you wait for him to appear, you cast a glance
at his paintings which are hanging on the walls, and you notice that no matter what others might think of them, they are gloomy.
However, you do agree with Delacroix who said that there are some “glimmerings of romanticism there” (5). If this
Delacroix guy is so insightful that he is right about this, maybe he knows something about Chucky. Perhaps you should go ask
him.
